Matthew Lawson

Chief Financial Officer

Matthew has over 20 years’ experience in leading global real estate investment and financial services companies across the Asia Pacific region.

In his role as Chief Financial Officer, Matthew is responsible for all finance, accounting, treasury and information technology functions at ESR Australia.

Prior to joining ESR in 2020, Matthew was an Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Hongkong & Shanghai Hotels Limited, a global real estate, hospitality and related services conglomerate.

Before this, Matthew was a Managing Director at JPMorgan and Head of their Real Estate investment banking practice in Asia, based in Hong Kong.  Matthew also worked at Arthur Andersen and Deutsche Bank in Sydney across Corporate Finance, Equity Capital Markets and Real Estate investment banking.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of International Business Relations from Griffith University and a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Queensland.  Matthew also completed various postgraduate studies in China, including at the Johns Hopkins-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies.  Matthew is a Director of Hong Kong Foundation for Charities.
